Ankle Surgery
Foot and ankle surgery is a sub-speciality of orthopaedics that deals with the treatment, diagnosis, and prevention of disorders of the foot and ankle.
Our Procedures
Ankle Sports Injuries
The foot and ankle work together to provide support and mobility. All types of athletes are at risk of sustaining a foot or ankle injuries or developing an ongoing condition. Injuries to the foot or ankle while being active are common.
Ankle Ligament Repair
It will usually be done as a day case procedure under a general anaesthetic. Your consultant may conduct an initial arthroscopic examination of the ligament, prior to making a bigger incision close to the ligament. It may be that the existing ligament can be repaired using stitches. Alternatively, the repair may require strengthening using support from other tissues, or a tendon may be used to take the place of torn ligaments.
Ankle Arthroscopy
Ankle arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that orthopaedic surgeons use to treat problems in the ankle joint. Ankle arthroscopy uses a thin fiber-optic camera (arthroscope) that can magnify and transmit images of the ankle to a video screen. Ankle arthroscopies can reduce ankle pain and improve overall function.
